Laborde Products, Inc. is Hiring a Mechanical Engineer Near Covington, LA

Laborde Products is an innovative family-owned company with offices in Covington, LA and Deer Park, TX. We provide heavy-duty engines, equipment, service, and support for our customers in the Marine and Industrial/Oilfield markets.

We are currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Covington, LA.

In this role, you will design, develop, and test all aspects of mechanical components, equipment, and machinery and will be responsible for the following:

  • Perform independent evaluation, selection, and engineering techniques to recommend products, design new products, and modify current products.
  • Plan and perform research, design, testing and development of assignments.
  • Troubleshoot by investigating problems related to product performance or production difficulties.
  • Develop 3d and 2d CAD packages of existing and future products.
  • Determine package designs for customers and build prototype models for testing and evaluation.
  • Approve both detailed and proposed equipment and package systems.
  • Approve new or revised drawings assuring that drawings meet latest engineering standards.
  • Analyze, evaluate, and rectify system failures.
  • Approve dimensional or material deviation requests on components manufactured by the company or suppliers.
  • Initiate new and revised current standard parts lists, typical drawings, and master sheets.
  • Coordinate with customers, sales, company personnel, and vendors to provide counseling, recommendations, and technical assistance.
  • Recommend new standards and policies on manufacturing and company procedures.
  • Prepare reports and provide recommendations to management to assist in developing department practices and policies.
  • Meet with customers in our office or at customer’s site to discuss, analyze, and resolve field problems or perform installations.
  • Forecast requirements and lead time to meet customer and departmental objections.
  • Meet with vendors to inspect or follow-up on manufacturing specifications.
  • May perform other duties as required by business needs.

Qualifications we are looking for:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience in a similar role preferred but will consider recent college graduates.
  • Diesel engine or marine experience preferred.
  • Valid Driver's license with a clean driving record.

Skills you will need:

  • Proficient knowledge of 3d and 2d CAD software.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
  • High energy with a positive attitude and strong work ethic.
  • Willing to face complex issues head on and work through challenges to build a stronger organization.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work well individually and as part of a team with diverse personalities. Tactful and mature.
  • Strong customer service mentality.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

  • This position operates in both an office and industrial environment.
  • Regularly works around mechanical equipment and may be exposed to high noise levels at times.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crawl and climb ladders.
  • Required to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
